中文 Vanity or Significant

Recently, I was at a small town in Malaysia called ‘Yong Peng’. I was en-route to Kuala Lumpur, but the coach I was in decided to pull over so that we could have lunch at this popular hawker centre. While I was ordering my lunch, a Singaporean woman near me collapsed and was unconscious. The people around her tried various methods to revive her but to no avail. A westerner who was there even tried using cardiopulmonary resuscitation but she was still unconscious. She was slowly turning black. The local police came and proclaimed her dead. I wish I’d had the faith to raise her from the dead and declare the testimony in this newsletter. What a wonderful testimony that would make, but I had to admit, I did not have that faith. I could only watch helplessly as the police cordoned off the area of incident. I continued with my journey towards Kuala Lumpur. It was a long ride. A most thought-provoking, long ride.
James wrote, “What is life? Life is but a vapor. It is here today and gone tomorrow…” The preacher said in his book, Ecclesiastes, that “all is vanity.” Is everything truly vain? Are our lives in vain or could there be something more than this? Can our lives be worth the living? Is it possible that we can move from mundane and mediocre to being significant? My mind races back to different times during the history of the church where a single person or a group of individuals decided to put their lives in the hands of a living God and the Lord did, indeed, raise them up in their generation to be significant. The advance of Christianity is essentially the story of how God has used young men and women to make a difference in this dying world. As I thought through these things, the torch seems to be passing to us. Are we ready to run with the gospel?
In 1729, the Moravians would begin a prayer meeting for world missions that went non-stop for a hundred years!
In 1783, God raised William Carey, to challenge Christians of his generation to see a bigger world. It was this this young pastor that preached the thought provoking message, “attempt great things for God and expect great things from God!” Later this young pastor would become a missionary to the Indian subcontinent and become known as the father of modern missions.
Can this generation be significant? Yes they can in the hands of an almighty God. We can expect great things from God and we can attempt great things for God!
In 1806, The Haystack Prayer Meeting at Williams College was the spark that lit the mission movement in the U.S. This prayer meeting would eventually send out thousands of missionaries from the U.S. to the unreached. The American Bible Society was a result of this prayer meeting.

David Livingstone
In 1840, Dr David Livingstone heard missionary to Africa, Robert Moffat, say that at dusk he could look inland and “see the smoke of a thousand villages” without the gospel. And in 1841, Livingstone changed his life’s focus and went to Africa.
In 1850, teenager Hudson Taylor committed his life to serve Christ in China and four years later, Taylor left England and would later found the China Inland Mission. The influence of Taylor’s life continues to be felt throughout China today.
In 1882, D.L. Moody preached in Cambridge and a revival for missions swept through the place. Among those who committed their lives to Christ at Moody’s meetings was a young athlete named C.T. Studd. He gave up his huge inherited fortune to finance his missions work and later began the World Evangelization Crusade.
In 1933, Dawson Trotman founded the Navigators.
In 1944, Billy Graham and Torrey Johnson, a young evangelist and a young pastor, formed Youth for Christ.
In 1951, a young seminary student, Bill Bright, started Campus Crusade for Christ.
The list just goes on and on of ordinary people in the hands of an extraordinary God. We are living in perilous times. The world is crying out for a savior. We have been passed the torch. Can our lives be significant? Yes, we can, but only in the hands of an almighty God. My friends, today, we are living in unprecedented times. The Lord is opening tremendous doors. We need to pray like never before. We cannot do it alone and the Lord is asking you to be that person that He can use. It is truly our honor that we can stand with all of you to reach this generation for Christ. Keep being significant.

IT is happening. Mark was in Cambodia in mid-July to tell the parents of Rongko’s 12th grade class about IT. He brought back copies of the booklets describing IT – one of which is now in my hands. IT has been in planning and preparation since 2006. IT is bringing many changes to a rural community. IT is leading people to Jesus.
What is IT?
IT is the Institute of Technology at Rongko. Classes begin on October 4. Students who would not have been able to obtain advanced education in the past will now be able to get a Bachelor’s Degree in several areas – English, Information Technology, Business Administration, Agricultural Technology, and Agricultural Economics. Students are anxiously waiting.
Pray with us as the final details come together and as IT opens the doors of hope to Cambodia
Children’s Homes
(Partnership with NHO)
God is good!
In May, Mark was at GA611 church in Hong Kong. While there, he felt led to speak to the people about Cambodia. As a result, 19 people/couples (so far) have decided to sponsor 29 Cambodian children within NHO. Praise God and thank you GA611! Welcome to the Raising Kids sponsorship family!
I am so joyful in knowing that 29 more children have people who are praying for them and providing for their needs. Before this happened only four children at the Battambang home were sponsored. Now, every child currently at the home (actually every child currently within NHO) has a sponsor. This is an answer to prayer!
Children are always arriving at the children’s homes of our partner ministries in Myanmar, India and Cambodia. Actually, at the moment, there are approximately 90 children in Myanmar and one in India who are waiting for their sponsors. In India, we also need approximately 14 educational supporters for the children. Please continually pray with me for more sponsors to join Raising Kids so that these 91 children (and any child arriving in any of the three countries) will have someone who is specifically praying and providing for them and their needs. I know that God will answer those prayers.

This month, we went with Pastor Mark, brothers and sisters from Hong Kong GA611 and Malaysia GA611 to Shigaze and Namco for prayerwalking. On the way, whenever we passed by the key places, we would stop and talk to people about the Good News – even when we were having lunch on the road. People would stop and share food with us and we would share the Good News with them. Most of them have never heard of the Good News. We are very excited to be the first sowers!!!
When we came back to Lhasa, we invited about ten family representatives to come to celebrate the ten-year new life anniversary. This is the first time in history we had open worship. With the GA611 Malaysia’s worship team, the preaching by Pastor Zhou from Hong Kong, the speech by Pastor Mark and the ministry from other brothers and sisters, the Holy Spirit was moving among the families. They were very touched and willing to accept Jesus as their Savior.
We are very thankful for what SEAPC has done for the last ten years. We are also very thankful for what other churches, brothers and sisters have offered for Touching Hearts. That day we believed that God was reminding us how important teamwork is. May the Lord bless those who fear him with wealth and riches, so that they can give them to the poor in health and spirit!!!!

Hearing the Word
The Word is heard from a classroom to an apprentice shop, to a household; from mentors and students, to teacher and disciples, to father and children; from a student hearing the Word, to a servant, to a soldier, to a son hearing the same Word; from a son hearing the Word, to one of many sons who are all in one accord in one place hearing the same Word from a common Father; from a God-fearing individual soldier, hearing His commands, to a specialized individual who is part of a body — the God-fearing great army, hearing the same commands.
How are you hearing the Word? How have you been hearing the same Word? We have been on Psalms 112 for many months now. As I experience the changes in roles and relationships, I’m hearing the same Word birthed faith upon faith, works upon works and blessings upon blessings. To experience more of the abundance of the blessed state of the righteous in your life, in order to be a living testimony, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God, you need to be who you are — who our God above all Gods, our Father, made you to be — More.
What does “more” mean? “More,” as I come to understand, includes being more than what we are used to. If I am used to being a servant to a Lord, I need to renew my mind and be a son to a Heavenly Father. Does not our prayer start with “Our Father in heaven?” If we are used to being a soldier or a general, but not a son nor a father, then we realize only part of His perfect will for us. We only hear part of what His Word is saying. Our faith is only partly birthed by a partial hearing of the Word. Our blessed state is only partial.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:1-2
Now, it is a sacrifice — a living sacrifice — because we, the living breathing flesh-bound, are the sacrifice! We have to sacrifice what we are used to and step into a role which we might not be familiar, had stumbled over in the past, or are generally lacking in. Our flesh abhors that. Yes, it is a sacrifice and it is a sacrifice worth making, especially in the areas of your life in which the Holy Spirit is prompting you. Know that His Grace is sufficient. His blessings are abundant. Be more of who you are with His Grace and be more blessed.
Lemuel

The Kingdom Key

The Kingdom Key
OK, I have figured it out. I am coming to 62. I have been married to my first love for 40 years and have two sons who have completed their college educations and are doing well in their professions. My grandson owns whatever was left of my heart. My daughters-in-law are fantastic. I am the most thankful man you will ever meet and I have figured out the combination to success in life.
This is a key often overlooked in the business of everyday living. Life comes at you fast these days. There are challenges on every side. Technology has made us a society of trivia addicts whose computers, Blackberries, and iPhones tell us all we need to know on every subject in four lines of near microscopic text which, if followed carefully, will allow us entrance into the rat race. Just remember the words of the sage, “Even if you win the Rat Race, you are still a rat.”
But, I have boiled it all down to one question. If you can answer this question properly, you will advance to the next board without penalty. Once you have this key, you will never need another. When the light dawned on me, I thought, “Man that is so obvious I am sure I need to share it with others.”
This could be a cure for both domestic and foreign policy for nations. This could save billions in defense spending and pork-barrel local projects. If we can just get this key distributed to neighbors and nations, we will be able to usher in a new era of abundance for all.
I have just finished a five-week, seven nations trip. I told myself at the beginning of the year that I would travel less. Forget that. That is part of the key.
Right after I wrote about having no more funds, a couple in Singapore offered $100,000 to buy two homes in Lawrenceville to rent out, creating some cash flow for SEAPC. An old friend in the same city donated $100,000 for completion of the Hope Garden in Laos and a major Singapore church contacted us about the University and Siem Reap Children’s home. Total gifts offered $370,000. But, none of it helps our payroll cash flow situations.
The Lord touched the hearts and made it possible for some of our longest-standing donors to remember us with offerings and special gifts, and here we are in August. I thank God for each person who decided to help. That is another part of the key.
While in Tibet, I was invited to a very important meeting. It was very tense because the Beijing leadership has sent a new administrator to the region to be sure there is no uprising as they install a new Head Lama at the Potala Palace on the 75th birthday of the Dali Lama. Talk about a rat race. There were tanks in the streets and columns of trucks miles long. The atmosphere was very tense and our friends at the hospital were taking a lot of heat because of the Touching Hearts project and the way we are meeting and networking so many Tibetans. Because we bring life, we can mobilize a very loyal following.
I could sense the tension and, during my morning devotions, my heart was quickened when I read:
Psalm 112:6 “Surely he will never be shaken; the righteous will be in everlasting remembrance. He will not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is established; he will not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.” That is another part of the key.
The meeting started “hot” but cooler heads prevailed and I heard their plea for control while this man is in town. No problem. Our teams were headed to very remote areas to do prayer strategies. There were no conflicts or problems. The papers were in order and we celebrated the Fourth of July at the world’s highest lake and then came down 4,000 feet to Lhasa for the Celebration of Life – a wonderful worship time led by the 611 churches from Hong Kong and Malaysia. I was in a meeting in Laos where a special assistant to the government explained to me that, as she prayed, the Lord had opened a way into the very heart of that nation’s communist party. On the same stop, a Christian brother explained to me how we need specific prayer as he is counseling the government on the establishment of their central bank. These two are turning the key.
I stopped in Cambodia for a few days to announce the opening of our Institute of Technology at Rongko and to take questions from parents of our freshman class. These farmers make $200 a year and the school fees are $350 so the question was obvious. “How are we going to pay?” I wish you could have been there to see their faces as I explained that the church in Singapore was going to give 200 scholarships so their kids start with the bill paid, but have to maintain levels academically and socially to keep the scholarship. Our school Superintendant declared that Jesus had answered their prayers. He is a really good key turner.
So, without further delay, let me give you the key: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.”
“Many thanks” to all of you who have redoubled your efforts in prayer and giving, and who believe, with us, that Jesus will make a way. God is on the throne, the devil is a liar, and faith is the victory.
